Your massage in a post-COVID19 world

Massage (in England) is back on the menu

Soft tissue therapists (in England) are now able to return to work (from 13 July 2020) but there will be some changes in how your appointment will proceed in order to continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection. Below are some of the changes you can expect:

Check your symptoms/exposure to COVID-19

  • If you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, please postpone or cancel your appointment immediately (no charge/penalty)
  • If you are classified as a keyworker (especially front-line staff), you should shower and change your work clothes before attending your session
  • If you are considered a high-risk client (see list below), it may not be possible to massage you at this time (feel free to discuss this with Matt)
    • People over 70 years old
    • Those with diabetes
    • Pregnant clients
    • Those with heart/lung conditions
    • Those with suppressed immunity
    • Those with a BMI 39+

New policies/procedures to follow

  • Your temperature will be taken upon arrival (using a contactless temperature gun)
  • There will be a consent form to complete regarding your exposure to COVID-19
  • There will be a short update consultation, via telephone or videoconferencing, prior to your appointment to discuss your needs and any COVID-19 issues
    • This can be mutually arranged via SMS/phone/email
    • All consultation and consent documents should be signed and brought with you to your appointment or emailed beforehand
  • Please bring you own pen and water if needed, as these can no long be supplied
  • If you have a face mask, please wear this but if you don’t, you will be supplied with one to wear throughout your transit through the gym
  • Please wear clothing which is easy to remove and avoid wearing jewellery (you will be provided with a clean plastic lidded box in which to store your items under the massage table)
  • Please do NOT bring your own towels, linens or other bedding with you
  • Please remain in your car/outside the gym and Matt will call/collect you just before your appointment time
  • Please do not arrive any earlier than 5 minutes before your start time
  • You will be asked to enter through the rear fire exit (by the car washing area)
  • Please come alone and only bring a chaperone or legal guardian if necessary

What to expect inside the treatment room

  • The treatment room will have been thoroughly disinfected and all linen and face cradles replaced for each client
  • The room will be fully aired in between sessions
  • Matt will be wearing personal protective equipment (face mask and visor, gloves and apron)
  • The treatment will continue as usual

After the treatment is over

  • When the treatment is over, please leave all the linens, untouched on the couch and try not to touch anything as you leave
  • Please keep your mask on until you exit the premises. It is also recommended that you register for the NHS Test and Trace app to maintain our safety
  • All payments should be made prior to your session, using my website, but contactless payment is available. If you have to pay with cash, please bring the correct money and place it in the supplied envelope
